Having come through the other side of type 2 diabetes, relatively unscathed (so far). The one thing that does seem to have paid off in my favour is my weight management. Some 40 pounds over weight, the energy levels of a dead seal, I realized my weight was not going anywhere. I can’t take all the limelight for loosing the weight but I think the fear of blindness, amputations and heart attacks gave me most of the impetus but ultimately, if you want to loose weight, lay off the junk.

In truth, losing weight is a fairly simple process once one is on the right track, anyone can do it, once the correct adjustments have been made to one’s diet. The rest just happens on auto pilot. All it takes is a bit of faith and a bit of patience. It will happen, slowly to start with then all of a sudden your body kicks up a gear and its metabolism starts to work properly, maybe for the first time since when you were a nipper with bundles of energy.

Metabolism!, it is a word that gets thrown around so frequently these days that no one really stops to think what that actually implies. When you hear metabolism, do not think the words, lively and energy, think more on the lines of fat and glucose metabolism and protein to fuel conversion.

Deep down in the center of your cells lies the necessary set of bio chemical mechanisms that allow for all of this, the trouble with our modern diet is that, through years of eating the wrong stodgy lifeless foods, we deplete the necessary chemicals and nutrients needed to achieve all of this. Our bodies adjust by slowly taking on a new form of metabolism, as this occurs, the pounds slowly pile on, for years your body will happily put up with this, kind of like a subservient donkey, carrying its heavy load for miles, plodding on until one day old age and exhaustion catch up with it and…well, you work out the next bit. Same thing happens with your own body’s ability to deal with junk food, for years it plods on and…etc.

What can be done about it? surprisingly quite a lot and with the right tools for the job, relatively little ground work contrary to what most of the media behind it would have you believe. Its just a case of implementing the right practices from the start, the rest as they say, is history.
